2006/7/23 RCMP police dog killed in the line of duty , Baltimore, N.B. On July 22, 2006, Caledonia District 11 RCMP responded to a call of an armed man in Baltimore, N.B. The J Division Emergency Response Team and Police Service Dog “Hrain” were also called to the scene. At the scene, “Hrain” got away from his handler and pursued a suspect into a wooded area. The suspect was bitten by the dog, but the man managed to escape back to his home where he was later arrested. “Hrain” did not return. At 2pm on the following day, July 23, “Hrain” was discovered dead in the woods. "Hrain" was later flown to the University of PEI Veterinary College for an autopsy. At this time, no charges have been laid. The matter is still under investigation. - 30 - Sgt. Le 22 juillet 2006, le District 11 de la GRC (Caledonia) a reçu un appel relatif à un homme armé à Baltimore (N.-B.). Le Groupe tactique d’intervention de la Division J de la GRC ainsi que le chien policier « Hrain » ont été appelés en renfort. Une fois sur les lieux, le chien «Hrain » s’est éloigné de son maître et a pourchassé le suspect dans un boisé. Le chien a mordu le suspect, mais ce dernier a réussi à s’en échapper et à retourner à son domicile où il a été arrêté. Le chien, lui, n’est pas revenu. À 14 h le jour suivant, on a trouvé « Hrain » mort dans un boisé. On l’a transporté au collège de médecine vétérinaire de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard où une autopsie sera pratiquée.
