General Information

In addition to the possibility of seeing dozens of shooting stars per hour, Tremblant Beneath the Stars offers visitors a variety of educational activities for the whole family. On Friday and Saturday evenings at 9:30 p.m., the Canadian Space Agency's Alain Berinstain, Director of Planetary Exploration and Space Astronomy, will give a bilingual presentation entitled "Reaching for the Moon," a fascinating look at the future of space exploration, and why we must return to the Moon. Take a nature hike to learn the secrets of the starry night. Visit the Portable Planetarium for multimedia presentations on the constellations and the Perseid meteor showers. Weather permitting, see live images from the Canadian Space Agency's Observatory (equipped with a 16-inch telescope) on a giant screen, as a powerful laser points out stars, constellations, satellites and planets in the night sky. And, of course, meet amateur and professional astronomers and look through their telescopes to see celestial objects like Jupiter and its moons, as well as the fascinating surface of our own Moon.

On Saturday afternoon, amateur astronomy clubs from different regions of Quebec, as well as the Canadian Space Agency, will make their telescopes available to visitors to view the Sun (and possibly even solar flares and sun spots) with the aid of special, safe filters. Be sure to drop by the Canadian Space Agency kiosk in the village square on Saturday afternoon to see rocks similar to those found on the Moon and on Mars, and to learn how to make a shoebox solar telescope.

Tremblant Beneath the Stars is an annual event organized by the Club des astronomes amateurs de Laval, Station Mont Tremblant and the Canadian Space Agency. The organizers would like to thank the Aster Observatory for their participation in this year's event.

Tips for observing the stars like a pro!

  • Dress warmly! It can get cold at the summit of the mountain (even in summertime). Don't forget your hat and gloves. A thermos of hot chocolate is a great idea, too!
  • Bring a folding chair or a blanket to sit on.
  • Pack your binoculars. Under the right observing conditions, you will be surprised how many stars you can observe with them.
  • For safety's sake, carry a flashlight with a red bulb or, if you have a clear bulb, cover it with red cellophane paper or red tape. Amateur astronomers use red lights only, since white light is harder on the eyes in the dark.
