TAX COURT OF CANADA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

Ottawa, October 27, 2006 – The Honourable Vic Toews, Q.C., Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Réal Favreau, a Private Tax Law Consultant from Sainte-Julie, Quebec, is appointed a Judge of the Tax Court of Canada. He replaces Mr. Justice T.P. O'Connor who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Favreau received a Bachelor of Civil Law in 1972 from the University of Sherbrooke. He has also pursued graduate studies in international law at the Hague Academy of International Law, Private International Law Section and in business law at the University of Ottawa. Mr. Justice Favreau was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1974 and has enjoyed practising in bilingual tax law environments offered by the federal government (1974-1979), private law firms (1979-2002), and private industry (2002-2006). His expertise in tax law, corporate law and commercial law has made him a much sought after committee member, lecturer and author in Canada.

This appointment is effective immediately.
