DIPLOMATIC APPOINTMENT



The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, today announced the following diplomatic appointment:



Daniel Sullivan becomes Consul General in New York (United States of America).

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE



Daniel Sullivan (BA, MBA, Columbia University; MBA University of Toronto) has most recently served as Deputy Chairman of Scotia Capital Inc., the corporate and investment banking division of Scotiabank, where he has worked for over 38 years. He was Chairman and Director of the Toronto Stock Exchange from 1999 to 2002 and is a former Chairman of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada. He has also served as director of a number of public companies, and has served on advisory boards or committees to Canada Post Corporation, Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Canadian Securities Administrators and the Ontario Securities Commission. Mr. Sullivan is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, a regional health authority, and of the Advancement Board of the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Mr. Sullivan was Chairman of the Board of Directors of St. Michael’s Hospital from 1994 to 2000 and serves on the Board of the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation. He has been director of a number of arts, educational and community organizations. He is the author of six papers on corporate and real estate finance for the Canadian Tax Foundation. Daniel Sullivan succeeds Pamela Wallin.
