Ottawa, Ontario – Private Josh Klukie was killed in Afghanistan on Friday, September 29 after setting off an explosive device buried in a road. The soldier was part of a foot patrol operating in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar, 25 km west of Kandahar City. A second soldier suffered minor injuries as a result of the blast.
Private Klukie was with the 1st Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment (1 RCR) stationed in Petawawa Ontario. His home town was Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Canadian Forces personnel are currently conducting security and reconstruction operations in the Panjwayi district as part of Operation MEDUSA, the large-scale International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) stabilization operation aimed at removing armed militants from the Panjwayi and Zhari regions of Afghanistan.
