GOVERNOR GENERAL TO OPEN THE MERIVALE-BASELINE GATEWAY SHELTERBELT AT THE CENTRAL EXPERIMENTAL FARM

OTTAWA, ON, September 7, 2005 - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, and His Excellency John Ralston Saul will unveil a plaque at the official opening of the Merivale-Baseline Gateway Shelterbelt and Pathway at the Central Experimental Farm. They will also launch a new donor program for the shelterbelt. The ceremony will take place on the corner of Baseline and Merivale Roads on Friday, September 9, 2005, at 3:00 p.m.

The project, run entirely by volunteers, is a joint initiative of the Friends of the Central Experimental Farm and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The forest belt will beautify the surroundings and mark the edge of the heritage landscape of the Farm. A new recreational path will weave through the beds of trees and shrubs and offer a beautiful walking tour of the Farm.
