CBC Records Receives Six JUNO Nominations

Toronto - CBC Records continued its remarkable history in the JUNO competition with six of its recordings being nominated. It is hoped these nominations will lead to full-fledged Juno Awards being handed out in Halifax on April 2. CBC Records, CBC/Radio-Canada's record label, has won a total number of 25 JUNOs since 1984.

"The JUNO Awards recognize the best in Canadian musical talent and CBC/Radio-Canada is proud of the role it plays in supporting and promoting Canadian artists," said René Bourdages, President, CBC/Radio-Canada Merchandising Division. "CBC Records is the one of the premier supplier to Canadians of albums featuring some of the country's finest musicians across all genres."

The six JUNO nominations picked up by CBC Records are in the classical and jazz categories. Three nominations are in the category BEST CLASSICAL COMPOSITION, including Chan Ka Nin's Our Finest Hour, Brian Cherney's Illuminations and Robert Turner's Symphony for Strings. Two nominations are in the category BEST VOCAL / CHORAL RECORDING and both artists already enjoy JUNO Awards from previous CBC Records releases. Russell Braun's Dei Winterreise and Michael Schade's Die schöne Müllerin received the nominations. The final nomination is in the category BEST TRADITIONAL JAZZ RECORDING for Don Thompson's Ask Me Later.

As Canadians' tastes and interests have evolved CBC Records has expanded its repertoire beyond classical music to embrace jazz, world, traditional and alternative rock releases. While CBC Records has led the classical music industry in regional and national nominations and awards, these nominations demonstrate a broadening excellence in music production. In making the best music available to Canadians CBC Records, working together with the Corporation's Merchandising Division, is becoming one of the most recognized and respected record labels in the country.
