Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency
News Release

Rabaska project: the public is invited to comment on the conformity of the environmental impact statement

OTTAWA, February 8, 2006 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) today announced the start of public consultations on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Rabaska project in accordance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The Rabaska project consists of the proposed construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Lévis, Québec.

The EIS was filed by the proponents, Gaz Métro, Gaz de France and Enbridge Inc. This consultation period will enable stakeholders to comment on the conformity of the Impact Statement in respect of the Guidelines issued for its preparation.

The Rabaska project would include a terminal comprising two storage tanks; a marine jetty to receive the LNG tankers; pumping, compression and vaporizing facilities; and a pipeline of approximately 50 kilometres to connect the terminal to the existing facilities of Trans Québec & Maritimes Pipeline Inc. in Saint-Nicolas.

The EIS is posted on the proponents' Web site at www.rabaska.net. The Guidelines for the preparation of the EIS are posted on the Agency Web site. Copies of the EIS are available for consultation at the following locations:
