Judicial Recount to Be Held in the Electoral District of
Desnethé–Missinippi–Churchill River

OTTAWA, Monday, February 6, 2006 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean‑Pierre Kingsley, announced today that there will be a judicial recount of the votes in Desnethé–Missinippi–Churchill River (Saskatchewan). Following validation of the results in the electoral district, the difference between the two leading candidates was 73 votes. The candidate who came in second requested the recount.

The recount is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 8, 2006. All candidates may attend, together with three of their representatives. The count will start that day at 11:00 a.m. and proceed continuously until 6:00 p.m. Thereafter, it will proceed continuously from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. unless the Court orders otherwise. The recount will be conducted by a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Saskatchewan. The results of the recount will be published on the Elections Canada Web site after the recount is completed.
