Government of Canada Supports the Fédération culturelle de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard

CHARLOTTETOWN, March 17, 2005 -- Member of Parliament (Charlottetown) Shawn Murphy, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced $50,000 in funding for the Fédération culturelle de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard. The funds will enable the group to provide cultural programming in French to the Island's Acadian and Francophone community.

"Thanks to the commitment of the Fédération culturelle de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard, Acadian and Francophone artists in our province have been able to showcase their artwork", said Mr. Murphy. "I am positive this year's programming will be a great success."

"It is essential to foster an environment where our artists' voices can be heard, said Minister Frulla. This funding will enable the Fédération to better promote Prince Edward Island's Acadian and Francophone artists."

Since 1990, the Fédération culturelle de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard has featured works from Prince Edward Island's Acadian and Francophone artists in order to foster growth in the province's cultural sector.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Development of the Official-Language Communities Program.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
