Monday, November 20, 2006

Major D.C. Duplisea and Master Warrant Officer Al Whitehall are invested into the Order of Military Merit at Rideau Hall, Ottawa, by the Governor General of Canada, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean on October 27, 2006.

OTTAWA, Ontario — 27 October was a day all new recipients of the Order of Military Merit (OMM) will remember, and most will think it a highlight of their careers in the Canadian Forces.

Created in 1972, the the OMM was established to recognize Regular and Reserve force members with meritorious service and exceptional devotion to duty. There are three levels of membership.

CMM, or Commander of Military Merit recognizes leadership in duties of great responsibility. "It is a very important day in recognition of a lot of work over a lot of years" said Lieutenant-General Michel Gauthier, a recipient of the CMM. "It's also a recognition of the people that work for me, you can't do that alone"

The Officer of Military Merit (OMM), is awarded to those with outstanding meritorious service in duties of responsibility. "I feel humbled," says Major Don Duplisea. "It's a very prestigious award".

The third level of membership is the Member of Military Merit (MMM). It is awarded for exceptional service in the performance of duty. "I felt very proud," says Master Warrant Officer Al Whitehall about winning the award,  "It is an honour that you share with a lot of people. It is easy to do a good job when you work with good people all the time."
