QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, August 30, 2005 – The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Irwin Cotler, today announced the following appointment:

Suzanne Ouellet, of Sainte-Foy is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec. She replaces Mr. Justice E. Martin who has elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Madam Justice Ouellet received a bachelor of laws from l’Université Laval in 1982 and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1983.

Prior to her appointment she was a partner with the firm Pothier Delisle in Sainte-Foy where she practised primarily in the areas of civil litigation, public law and disciplinary law.

Madam Justice Ouellet is a former professor at the Barreau du Quebec, l’Université Laval and l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. She has also acted as Commissioner for the Commission des services juridiques du Québec.

This appointment is effective immediately.
