SASKATCHEWAN JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA , August 30, 2005 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Irwin Cotler, today announced the following appointment:

Daniel B. Konkin, of Saskatoon is appointed a judge of the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench. He will be assigned to Swift Current by the Chief Justice and will replace Mr. Justice I.D. McLellan who has elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Konkin received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1981, and was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1982.

Prior to his appointment, he was a partner with the firm McKercher McKercher & Whitmore where he practised primarily in the areas of commercial and corporate law, administrative and environmental law and alternative dispute resolution.

Mr. Justice Konkin has been a member of many committees of the Canadian Bar Association and of the Law Society of Saskatchewan. He is the author of several legal publications and has been a frequent lecturer at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, the Saskatchewan Continuing Legal Education Society and the Canadian Bar Association.

This appointment is effective immediately.
