News ReleasesCF-18 Crashes near 3 Wing Bagotville Aug. 16, 2005
3 WING BAGOTVILLE - On Tuesday August 16, at 8:40 a.m. a pilot from 425 Alouette Tactical Fighter Squadron ejected from his CF-18 aircraft during a training mission approximately 100 kilometers North-East of 3 Wing Bagotville. Immediately following the accident, radio contact was established with the pilot, Capt Colin Marks, who was safely recovered by a Search and Rescue crew from 439 Combat Support Sqn while a second CF-18 stayed in the area to direct the search effort and liaise with the Base. At 10:00 a.m., Capt Marks arrived at the 3 Wing Hospital to undergo a medical examination. “Our first priority was our pilot,” said Colonel Yvan Blondin, Commander, 3 Wing Bagotville. “We are happy to see that all the safety systems on board the CF-18 functioned properly and that our pilot was able to escape safely.” A team has been sent to secure the site of the accident and every precaution is being taken to prevent potential forest fires. An investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the accident. For more information please contact 3 Wing Bagotville Public Affairs, (418) 677-4000 ext 8277 or on cellular (418) 690-6362. |
