Government of Canada Supports 14 Quebec Magazines

MONTREAL, August 2, 2005 -- Minister of Transport and Political Lieutenant for Quebec Jean-C. Lapierre, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced $1,163,502 in funding for 14 Quebec magazines. The funds will enable the publishers of these magazines to continue to provide editorial content that reflects the everyday lives of Canadians.

"Everywhere in our country and, in particular in Quebec, the Government of Canada is supporting publishers so that they can continue to enrich our culture," said Minister Lapierre. "I am happy to announce this funding, which demonstrates our commitment to offering Canadian readers a wide choice of quality Canadian magazines."

"Magazines produced in Canada occupy an important place in our cultural landscape. They enable us to share our knowledge, our viewpoints and our expertise in a wide range of fields," added Minister Frulla. "The Government of Canada is proud to support these 14 magazines, which reflect the concerns and the interests of Canadians."

The magazines that will receive this funding are: Cool ($48,077), Clin d'Oeil ($122,196), Côte Jardins ($34,192), Décoration chez-soi ($66,063), Dernière Heure ($106,440), Échos Vedettes ($145,353), Femmes Plus ($69,359), Filles D'Aujourd'hui ($53,831), Le Lundi ($107,526), Les Idées de ma Maison ($73,829), Magazin'art ($31,274), Recevoir ($32,364), Rénovation Bricolage ($57,674), and 7 Jours ($215,324).

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Support for Editorial Content component of its Canada Magazine Fund, which is part of the Government of Canada's commitment to ensure that Canadian readers have access to quality Canadian publications. To achieve this, the Department supports Canadian publishers who are eligible for reimbursement of the production costs related to Canadian content in paid-distribution Canadian magazines.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
