Francophone Communities Showcased as part of Saskatchewan's Centennial Celebrations

REGINA, August 5, 2005 -- Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament (Wascana) Ralph Goodale, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced $50,000 in funding for the Assemblée communautaire Fransaskoise Inc (ACF). The funds will enable the ACF to commemorate the history and achievements of Francophone communities as part of Saskatchewan's Centennial.

"Our province has a very dynamic Francophone community that has contributed, in so many ways, to making Saskatchewan a prosperous province," said Minister Goodale. "We are pleased to partner with the ACF to showcase this community's history and achievements, as well as the talent of its creators during this Centennial year."

"I am pleased that this project will enable Franco-Saskatchewan artists to make their talent and their works become better known in both their province and elsewhere in Canada," said Minister Frulla."

This project, "Mosa?que Fransaskoise", consists of two initiatives. The first will enable Francophone performers to showcase their talent during the Canada Games in Regina, which will take place from August 6 to 20. The second initiative will enable Francophone performers to take part in festivals in five eastern Canadian communities this fall.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Alberta - Saskatchewan Centennial Initiative. This program aims to support diverse activities put forward by non-governmental organizations in support of the Centennial of both Alberta and Saskatchewan in 2005.

Funding for these initiatives was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
