Government of Canada Supports Three Francophone Groups

MONCTON, August 9, 2005 -- Minister of State (Human Resources Development) and Member of Parliament (Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe) Claudette Bradshaw, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced $215,000 in funding for three Francophone groups in New Brunswick. These funds will enable the Alliance des producteurs francophones du Canada, l'Association des radios communautaires acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick, and the Coopérative de théâtre l'Escaouette to continue to promote French culture and language in Canada.

"Our linguistic duality contributes to making New Brunswick a dynamic province and Canada a great place to live," said Minister of State Bradshaw. "This funding will enable these groups to continue to present activities that reflect the Acadian and Francophone culture."

"The Government of Canada is committed to fostering the development of Francophone communities across Canada," added Minister Frulla. "I am proud to support these groups, which play a key role in Canada's Francophonie."

Of the funding announced today, the Alliance des producteurs francophones du Canada will receive $105,000 to produce its programming for the next two years (2005-2007). The Association des radios communautaires acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick will receive $60,000, and the Coopérative de théâtre l'Escaouette will receive $50,000, for both organizations to produce their 2005-2006 annual programming.

The funding for these groups was provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Development of Official-Language Communities Program.
