Government of Canada Supports the Capitol Theatre

MONCTON, August 18, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $51,000 in funding for the Capitol Theatre. The funds will enable this institution to contribute even more to Moncton region's cultural life.

"Moncton is a dynamic centre for culture, thanks to the Capitol Theatre and similar organizations that help artists showcase their talent and enable area residents to attend diverse and innovative performances," said Minister Frulla. "I am delighted to support the Theatre, which has become a cultural landmark."

"Arts, culture and heritage activities contribute directly to the quality of life enjoyed by Canadians," added Minister Frulla. "Our government wants artistic and cultural excellence to flourish in New Brunswick and all regions of Canada."

The funding will allow the Capitol Theatre to carry out its 2005-06 programming.

Financial assistance for this project is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under its Arts Presentation Canada program. This program seeks to help Canadians appreciate the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals and performances, as well as other arts events.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
