En route to the 37th Festival international de la chanson de Granby: The Government of Canada is on board

OTTAWA, August 24, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $70,000 in funding for the Réseau national des galas de la chanson. The funds will enable six winners of the main Canadian French-language song competitions to participate in the semifinals of the 37th Festival international de la chanson de Granby (FICG), which are set to take place in September.

"The Festival international de la chanson de Granby represents a unique opportunity for our young artists to meet, enjoy some unforgettable moments, and gain extremely valuable experience in the singer-songwriter field," said Minister Frulla. "I am pleased that young artists from across Canada will be able to showcase their talent there."

The funding will provide winners of the Festival de la chanson de Caraquet, Ontario Pop, and the Gala Chant'Ouest with an opportunity to participate in the FICG, as well as in training and development workshops offered as part of this festival.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Community Life component of the Development of Official Language Communities Program.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
