Extension of Highway 35
Proposed Scope of Environmental Assessment – comprehensive study

Transport Canada, together with Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Infrastructure Canada, invites the public to comment on the proposed scope of an environmental assessment related to the proposed extension of Highway 35. The highway will be extended between Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Philipsburg, Quebec at the Vermont border, to complete the highway system in the trade corridor between Montréal and Boston and to improve safety.

The Environmental Assessment Draft Scoping Document for the Highway 35 Construction Project is available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency Web site under the registry number 05-03-12245. The document is also available for consultation at the Adélard-Berger Library, 180 Laurier Street, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

All interested persons must provide their comments to Transport Canada no later than September 21, 2005. All documents and comments received by Transport Canada regarding this project are considered public and will become part of the public registry for the project. Please indicate the title of the project and the registry number listed above, and send your comments in the official language of your choice to:

Participant Funding Program

The Government of Canada, through the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, has established a $25,000 Participant Funding Program to assist groups and/or individuals interested in participating in the environmental assessment of the proposed project. A participant funding committee will be established to review funding applications and recommend to the President of the Agency the allocation of available funds to the successful applicants. To receive funding, successful applicants must participate in the development of the comprehensive study and/or in the review of the completed study report.
