Minister John McCallum proposes new Chairperson for the Royal Canadian Mint

Ottawa, August 30, 2005... The Honourable John McCallum, Minister of National Revenue and Responsible for the Royal Canadian Mint, today announced the proposed appointment of Mr. Max C. Lewis as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Royal Canadian Mint. The proposed appointment will be referred to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates for review. The Minister looks forward to receiving the results of the Standing Committee's review in the near future.

"Mr. Lewis will come to this position with significant public sector management experience", said Minister McCallum. "The expertise gained by Mr. Lewis in his previous positions would be a tremendous asset to the Mint."

As a provincial civil servant, Mr. Lewis held the position of Deputy Minister of Finance and Secretary to the Board of Management for the Province of New Brunswick from October 1991 until his retirement in February 1996. He also previously served as Deputy Minister for the Department of Supply & Services. Before entering public service, Mr. Lewis held positions with the New Brunswick Liquor Corporation, including General Manager and CEO.
