Canada's Environment Minister to visit China, Australia and India

OTTAWA, August 26, 2005 – The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Canada’s Environment Minister, will visit China, Australia and India from August 28 to September 6. Minister Dion will meet key officials to consult on Canada’s preparations to host November’s United Nations Climate Change Conference taking place this November in Montreal.

China: August 28 – 30
In China, Minister Dion will meet with: State Environmental Protection Administration Minister Xie Zhenhua; Foreign Affairs Assistant Minister Shen Guofang; and National Development and Reform Commission Vice Minister Jiang Weixin.

Australia: August 31 – September 3
In Australia, Minister Dion will meet with: Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer; Australian Minister for the Environment and Heritage Ian Campbell; South Australia Minister of Environment John Hill; and New South Wales Deputy Premier John Watkins.

India: September 4 – 6
In India, Minister Dion will meet with: Environment and Forests Minister, Thiru A. Raja; External Affairs Minister, Kunwar Natwar Singh; United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Chair, Dr. R.K. Pachauri; and Planning Commission member, Dr. Kirit S. Parikh.
