Minister Graham to Visit Russia

OTTAWA –The Minister of National Defence, Bill Graham, will be travelling to Moscow, Russia from August 31 to September 3, 2005. Minister Graham will be meeting with the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergei Ivanov. He will also be paying courtesy calls to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Secretary of the Security Council Mr. Igor Ivanov.

“I look forward to further deepening the relationship between Canada and Russia,” said Minister Graham. “This visit will also provide me with the opportunity to help further strengthen Russia-NATO relations ahead of September's Informal meeting of NATO Defence Ministers in Berlin.”

Discussions will centre on military collaboration and on the strengthening of Russia-NATO relations.

Media availabilities are planned for Thursday, 1 September, as follows:

  • 09:15 – 09:30: Photo opportunity at the Official Welcome Ceremony with the participation of Guards of Honour and an orchestra.

  • 09:30 – 10:30: Photo opportunity during the visit of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945.

  • 14:45 – 15:00: Photo opportunity at the Official Ceremony of Laying Wreaths on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
