HEALTH HAZARD ALERT

RUSSELL AND ABBY MINERS PURE MAPLE SYRUP MAY BE CONTAMINATED WITH LEAD

OTTAWA, August 25, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume Russell and Abby Miners Pure Maple Syrup described below as it may be contaminated with high levels of lead.

The affected product, Russell and Abby Miners Pure Maple Syrup, is sold in plastic and glass containers bearing the following identification sticker:

Some of the affected maple syrup containers may be identified with the Company name "Maple Ridge Farms".

The following Lot codes and container sizes of the maple syrup are affected by this alert. The Lot code appears on a sticker which is applied at the bottom of the container.

This maple syrup has been distributed in Ontario.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Continued exposure to high levels of lead can cause damage to the central nervous system, kidneys, and blood. Children are particularly at risk.

The producer is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
