![]() Environment Canada to Discuss Improvements in Weather Forecasting Using Latest IBM SupercomputerDorval, Quebec – Thursday, January 6, 2005 Media representatives are advised that Environment Canada will hold a media briefing on Monday, January 10, to mark the first anniversary of Environment Canada’s IBM supercomputer and highlight its contribution to improved forecasts. Pierre Dubreuil, from Environment Canada’s Meteorological Service, and Kim Devooght, from IBM, will be on site at the Canadian Meteorological Centre located in Dorval, Quebec. The new supercomputer has increased Environment Canada’s capacity to monitor and predict our atmospheric environment, whether we need to project global climate for the next three generations, or whether we need to track a plume of pollutants across the urban landscape for the next three hours.
