Community Centre Gets a Lift
Loch Lomond, NS –– With funding from Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation
(ECBC), the Loch Lomond Community Centre, which has been a hub of activity
in the area for over 20 years, has been given a lift. With a new entrance,
windows, roofing and siding the hall is ready to continue hosting meetings,
special events and concerts for many years to come.
“By investing in our communities, we are investing in the future of our
Island,” says Rodger Cuzner, MP for Cape Breton-Canso, on behalf of the
Honourable Joseph McGuire Minister of ECBC and the Atlantic Canada
Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “We are proud to be a part of the continued
success of the Loch Lomond Community Centre.”
With a fresh façade, the Centre is more attractive to the local community
and tourists alike. “We hope these renovations will entice people to visit
the Centre and increase activities and attendance,” says Mary MacDonald,
President of the Loch Lomond Heritage Association. “Most of all, with
funding from the Government of Canada, we will be able to continue doing
what we do
best – serve our community.”
The total cost of the project was $27,500. ECBC provided a non-repayable
contribution of $22,000 through ACOA’s Strategic Community Investment Fund (SCIF).
SCIF provides $135 million over five years to help communities in Atlantic
Canada create an environment that encourages and enhances economic
development.
ECBC offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is
responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on Cape Breton Island and in the
Mulgrave area.
