Expert Team Conducts Radiological Incident Exercise

March 27, 2006

OTTAWA – A team of radiological-nuclear technical experts from the Government of Canada will host a media event at Slemon Park in Prince Edward Island on March 31, 2006.

There will be a technical briefing followed by a demonstration of a response to a radiological incident. Personnel will be available for interviews. A Mobile Nuclear Lab vehicle will be used during the demonstration and, weather permitting, videographers will have an opportunity to participate in a fly-over using the team's helicopter to obtain aerial views. Photographs will be available to media upon request.

This event will follow the three-day radiological preparedness exercise that will include more than 140 of Canada's top radiological-nuclear experts, including scientific and operational response teams from the: Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Research and Technology Initiative (CRTI); the Canadian Forces' Joint Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence Company; the RCMP; and the Province of New Brunswick. This exercise is the most realistic radiological field exercise ever held in Canada, and the largest CRTI exercise to date.
