WOMAN FINED, RECEIVES SPORT FISHING
LICENCE PROHIBITION
Whitehorse, YT - Fisheries
and Oceans Canada announced today that a Whitehorse resident was
recently convicted in Territorial Court for recreational fishing
violations.
In July and August last year, fishery officers received multiple
tips from the public that several individuals had caught and
retained more than the prescribed daily catch limit of chinook
salmon near Tatchun Creek, in the Yukon Territory. Fishery
officers conducted an investigation that led to charges being
laid against one individual. Beverly Karen Tarr was observed
catching and retaining two chinook in one day. The fish had been
caught in contravention of the Yukon Territorial Fishery
Regulations and were subsequently seized. Mrs. Tarr was charged
with exceeding the daily catch limit and failing to immediately
record her salmon catch on her Salmon Conservation Catch Card.
Mrs. Tarr was convicted and ordered to pay a fine of $150 for
exceeding the daily limit and $100 for failing to record her
salmon catch. In addition to the fines, Mrs. Tarr is prohibited
from obtaining a Sport Fishing licence for April 2006 to March
31, 2007 and is prohibited from recreational fishing from April
2006 to March 31, 2007.
