WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Several hundred soldiers arrived here by plane in late April to make their way to the Red River Exhibition grounds for Exercise CHARGING BISON.
One of the aims of the exercise was to train soldiers to interact with a local civilian population while remaining focused on a military mission at the same time.
Soldiers from 38 Canadian Brigade Group were shown how to conduct operations in an urban environment similar to what they may encounter if they are deployed on operations outside of Canada. The Air Force provided an Airbus A310 for a quick trip for the Saskatchewan-based Reserve units, whereas a C-130 Hercules provided transportation for units from Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Local media covering the exercise interviewed several soldiers at the airport.
The soldiers then boarded buses for Camp Red River (Red River Exhibition grounds). When the soldiers arrived at camp, they began clearing in through the Arrival Assistance Group (AAG) and assembling their personal weapons.
After receiving a safety briefing they were fed supper before boarding buses that would take them to their individual camps.
