Telefilm Canada helps Canadians do brisk business at Cannes 2006
Montréal, May 30, 2006 -Telefilm Canada is proud to announce yet
another successful international initiative. Like the highly successful Canada-U.K.
Immersion held in London in February, Perspective Canada_Cannes: A selection
of new films at the Market proved fruitful for Canadian filmmakers and sales agents
attending the 2006 Cannes Festival.
Telefilm spearheaded this new activity, organizing and promoting market screenings
for 13 recent Canadian features at the Cannes Market to stimulate international
sales. By bolstering the sales and promotion efforts of producers and distributors
at international markets, Telelfilm achieves one of its core objectives: to
help build a dynamic, sustainable audiovisual industry.
Alongside Perspective Canada_Cannes, the Canada Pavilion served as a
vital business centre for the fifth year running, providing support for the
Canadian delegation of over 100 companies doing business at the Market.
"Canadians and their international counterparts were constantly busy at
the Canada Pavilion," said Danny Chalifour, Director - Industry Development
Operations, who attended the Festival. "And Perspective Canada_Cannes
was a great platform for giving Canadian films and Canadian talent exposure
to over 10,000 buyers, sellers, and producers from 83 countries."
For a glimpse of business deals involving films shown at Perspective Canada_Cannes:
- UK-based sales company The Works sold Philippe Falardeau's Congorama,
which closed the Directors' Fortnight, to UGC for France;
- Cinémaginaire producer Denise Robert inked deals for The Rocket
(Maurice Richard) with five Scandinavian countries: Sweden, Finland, Iceland,
