International Trade Minister David Emerson, Industry Minister Maxime Bernier and Canada's Ambassador to the United States Michael Wilson have announced that Canada and the United States have reached a long-term agreement that resolves the softwood lumber dispute between the two countries.
The following points are highlighted in the agreement:
- no quotas or tariffs will be set at the current prices
- $4 billion in duties will be repaid to Canada
- the provinces and regions will have flexibility under the agreement
- the agreement will last 7 years
