Minister Ambrose Applauds Former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney’s Recognition as the Greenest PM in Canadian History

OTTAWA, Ontario, April 20, 2006 – Mrs. Rona Ambrose, Minister of the Environment of Canada congratulates former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney who will be recognized this evening by Corporate Knights, the Canadian magazine for responsible business as the Greenest Prime Minister in Canadian history.

The Gala Dinner is part of the activities organized to celebrate Earth Week. Brian Mulroney’s record on environmental issues ranges from participation in international accords on acid rain and biodiversity to the opening of three national parks.

Environment Canada continues to be guided by many of the initiatives launched under the former Mulroney government. Whether it is the Great Lakes Agreement with its American counterparts or the clean up of the Saint Lawrence Seaway, the Department is continuing the important contribution of the former Prime Minister.

“As Minister of the Environment, I recognize that some of the tools that we are using today to advance Canada’s clean air, clean water and clean soil agenda were developed under former Prime Minister Mulroney”, stated Mrs. Ambrose. “I am thankful for his contribution and legacy. This recognition is well deserved. Mr. Mulroney is one Canadian who was greatly committed to the environment. I encourage all Canadians to contribute in their own way to ensure a clean environment for them and for future generations.”
