DND Reaches Settlement In Abuse Case: Class Action Open To Former Sea Cadets Subjected To Abuse

NR-06.005 - April 20, 2006

OTTAWA - The Department of National Defence (DND) has settled a class action lawsuit with the plaintiffs in a sexual abuse case that dates back to the 1960s.  The abuse took place at the Captain Vancouver Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps from 1964 to 1980.

If anyone was subjected to sexual abuse from 1964 to 1980 as a result of their involvement with the Captain Vancouver Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, they are urged to immediately contact the lawyer for the plaintiffs, Mr. Robert Gibbens, of Laxton and Company in Vancouver, at (604) 682-3871.  However, they must do so before June 5, 2006.
