Melanie Aitken Appointed as Assistant Deputy Commissioner in Mergers BranchOTTAWA, May 24, 2005 - Sheridan Scott, Commissioner of Competition, is pleased to announce that Melanie Aitken will be joining the Competition Bureau as an Assistant Deputy Commissioner in the Mergers Branch. Melanie brings a wealth of experience as litigation counsel having acted for both private and public sector clients on a wide range of matters, including a number of contested cases involving the Competition Bureau. Melanie, currently a partner at Bennett Jones LLP, is recognized internationally as a leading competition lawyer and was recently named among Canada's Top 40 Under 40 by LEXPERT. Her extensive expertise in competition, commercial, regulatory and public law will assist the Bureau in meeting the new challenges of the rapidly changing business environment.
