ADVANCE VOTING BEGINS ON FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2005,
FOR FEDERAL BY-ELECTION IN LABRADOR

OTTAWA, Wednesday, May 11, 2005 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, today reminded electors who wish to vote in the federal by-election before election day, Tuesday, May 24, 2005, that they may vote in advance on Friday, May 13, Saturday, May 14, and Monday, May 16, 2005. The advance polls are open from noon to 8:00 p.m. (local time) for electors entitled to vote in Labrador, in Newfoundland and Labrador.

"Canadians have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote on any one of the three advance voting days," said Mr. Kingsley. "If you are not already on the list of electors, you can register when you go to vote, provided you bring valid proof of identity and residence."

The address of the advance poll where an elector may vote is indicated on the back of the voter information card. Electors who are on the lists of electors should have received their voter information cards in the mail by Wednesday, May 4.

An elector who has not received a voter information card or who has received a voter information card with an incorrect name or address should contact the office of the returning officer. The address and telephone number of the office of the returning officer is listed at www.elections.ca in the section "Labrador By-election on May 24, 2005".

Electors who cannot or do not wish to vote at the advance polls may vote using a special ballot, through the mail or in person at the office of their returning officer. Electors have until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2005, to register to vote by special ballot. More information on voting by special ballot is available at www.elections.ca or by calling Elections Canada at 1 800 463-6868.

A by-election will be held in Labrador on Tuesday, May 24, 2005.
