PRELIMINARY RESULTS FOR LABRADOR BY-ELECTION
LIVE ON ELECTIONS CANADA WEB SITE TONIGHT

OTTAWA, Tuesday, May 24, 2005 – Elections Canada will begin posting preliminary results for the federal by-election in Labrador (Newfoundland and Labrador) at www.elections.ca shortly after the last polls close at 7:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Tuesday, May 24, 2005. The preliminary results are continually and instantly updated on the Web site.

Once the polls have closed, each deputy returning officer in the riding counts the votes in his or her poll. The results are received by the returning officer for the electoral district and immediately relayed electronically to Elections Canada.

Barring unforeseen delays, the validation of results for the federal by-election will take place on Monday, May 30, 2005.

A by-election will be held in Labrador on Tuesday, May 24, 2005.
