Domaine Forget de Charlevoix Receives Government of Canada Support

SAINT-IRÉNÉE, July 23, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $462,293 in funding for the Domaine Forget de Charlevoix. The funds will enable it to improve its reception area and build storage facilities for technical equipment at the Françoys-Bernier Concert Hall.

"For more than 25 years, the Domaine Forget has been a symbol of excellence in arts training and performance," said Minister Frulla. "The Government of Canada is proud to support this cultural institution in its efforts to improve its facilities and offer high-quality performances to local audiences and tourists from at home and abroad."

In addition to hosting an internationally known summer theatre festival every year, the Domaine Forget de Charlevoix runs a music and dance academy for young people and future professionals. It attracts artists from around the world and has welcomed more than 10 000 students and presented some 680 concerts over the last 25 years.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Cultural Spaces Canada program. This program supports cultural infrastructure projects that increase Canadians' access to the performing, visual, and media arts or improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and innovation.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
