Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision - Update #1

July 5th, 2005 Edmonton, Alberta

Leduc RCMP continue to investigate a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred approximately five kilometres south of the Millet turnoff (Leduc, Alberta) on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (Highway #2), on July 4th, 2005.

The collision involved two (2) police motor vehicles, from Wetaskiwin Detachment, and a fifteen (15) ton delivery truck. The driver of the truck was taken to hospital and later released.

Our deceased member is identified as Constable Jose AGOSTINHO, 45 years of age, 9 years service with the RCMP, he had been posted to Wetaskiwin Detachment for the past 2 years where he performed General Duty policing. Cst. AGOSTINHO is survived by his wife and two teenage children.

The second member, Constable Robin Haney, was treated and released from hospital. Cst. Haney has nearly 25 years of service and he is currently posted to Wetaskiwin Traffic Services.

No further information is available at this time concerning the collision. Please appreciate that we are in the early stages of this investigation and details are few at this time. Further details will be made available as the facts are learned.
