Ottawa Congress Centre
55 Colonel By Drive
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

On May 15 and 16, 2006, Statistics Canada will hold its annual two-day socio-economic conference. This event will provide a stimulating and challenging environment for presenters and participants alike, while serving as an annual forum for empirical research focusing on issues of concern in Canadian public policy.

The Socio-Economic Conference 2006 will include several plenary sessions featuring invited guest speakers who are leading authorities in their fields. Approximately 50 contributed papers, contributed sessions or posters will be presented, andtargets studies discussing:

  • Emerging Economic Trends and their Underlying Causes;
  • The social Implications of Economic Trends and the Ability of Various Groups to participate in the Economy

Topics relevant to the Conference include, but are not restricted to, innovation; productivity; international trade; agriculture; environment-economy linkages; natural resources and energy; transportation; industrial development; urban and rural development; health; education; families; income and wealth and their distribution; and labour markets.

This year will include poster presentation (study results in the form of a display board), contributed paper (analyses prepared in the form of a formal paper), and contributed session (a parallel session comprising a maximum of three papers on a related area of socio-economic analysis.).

As in past years, we continue to broaden the framework of the conference by actively encouraging the participation of people from outside Statistics Canada.  Last year, we attracted participants from other federal government departments, provincial ministries, the private and academic sectors, and foreign and international organizations.

We invite you to attend the Socio-Economic Conference 2006
