2001 Community Profiles

About the Data

The census information in the community profiles is collected either from 100% of the population or on a 20% sample basis (from a random sample of one in five households) with the data weighted up to provide estimates for the entire population. For any given geographic area, the weighted population, household, dwelling or family total or subtotal may differ from that shown in reports containing data collected on a 100% basis. Such variation (in addition to the effect of random rounding) will be due to sampling. Note that, on Indian reserves and in remote areas, all data were collected on a 100% basis.

In addition to random rounding, other methods, such as area suppression and the suppression of income statistics, have been adopted to further protect the confidentiality of individual responses.

Please note that the most appropriate 2001 population figures for Canada, provinces, territories, and Census Metropolitan Areas are the current postcensal population estimates. See the explanatory note.

Presently, all data for all geographic areas are drawn from the 2001 Census results.
