PSMA On The Move: Focus on Implementation!

The PSMA implementation phase is fast approaching. The first component of the new legislation, the PSLRA, comes into force on April 1 and the second component, the PSEA, in December 2005. Responsibility for implementing and realizing the full potential of the PSMA during this phase will rest primarily with departments and agencies. In the spirit of supporting you and well as your department/agency in this period of change, CSPS, in collaboration with PSC and PSHRMAC, held the January 31 symposium.

The Honourable Reg Alcock, President of the Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada, gave the symposium keynote address. In addition, Mr. Wayne Wouters, Secretary of the Treasury Board of Canada, Secretariat, Ms. Janice Cochrane, President of the Canada School of Public Service, Ms. Michelle Chartrand, President, Public Service HR Management Agency and Ms. Maria Barrados, President of the Public Service Commission hosted a pre-symposium breakfast meeting with Deputy Ministers and Agency Heads.

Target audiences:

  • Departmental / agency personnel who have special responsibility for the implementation of PSMA (e.g. PSMA Champions, Project Managers and members of Implementation Teams, and Human Resources, Labour Relations, Communications and Learning Managers and Specialists etc.).

  • Key line executives and managers.

  • Bargaining Agents

Objectives:

Symposium participants will:

  • Enhance their capacity to develop and carry out PSMA implementation plans

  • Share and develop approaches, models, and best practices on key PSMA topics

  • Build bridges with members of the various communities to enable them to work together to implement PSMA

  • Broaden their awareness of the potential benefits and implications of PSMA for line managers
