[Guide] The purpose of the Dublin Core Application Profile (DCAP) for Web Resource Discovery in the Government of Canada is to document how the GC uses DC terms to describe its Web resources. It identifies and describes the attributes of the terms for the metadata elements and refinements maintained by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) that the GC has adopted to aid discovery of its Web resources. The profile also identifies recommended registered encoding schemes for use when applying the element values.

2004-10-04   Collaborative Web Service Development
[Presentation] The session will be a presentation on the collaborative work of Library and Archives Canada, PWGSC and Environment Canada in the development of the Core Subject Thesaurus as a web service. As part of the prototype web service development a generic application interface to the service has also been created that would allow departmental CMS or other applications access to the service. The presentation will be followed by a live demonstration of the service and discussion of the collaboration experience.

    Working Together to Deliver a Major Initiative
[Presentation] A Compelling Case For Change - The continuum of employee payroll and earnings related information constitutes the single most important set of data required to administer some of our most significant programs at all levels of government in Canada. This presentation provides an update on E-Payroll: a joint CRA, HRSDC and SDC initiative that intends to transform the administration and delivery of key social benefit and revenue programs (e.g., CPP, EI, Tax) through the development of a streamlined and integrated approach to the collection, management and use of payroll and other T-4 related earnings and income information.

[Presentation] This session profiles current research led by Environment Canada to quantify what an adequate enterprise-wide investment in IM should be. This work is centred on a costing model based on factors such as departmental size, mandate, readiness of IT infrastructure, and organizational capacity. Participants will discuss the premises and assumptions of this work, and by doing so contribute to ongoing research. The challenge is to define and quantify current IM investment and then begin to move up the value chain so that present and future investments are both strategic and sufficient.
