Ottawa, November 26, 2001 Minister of Finance Announces Budget DateFinance Minister Paul Martin today announced that he will present the 2001 federal budget in the House of Commons at approximately 4:00 p.m. EST on December 10, 2001. As in past budgets, this budget may contain measures that take effect on budget day. Such measures would be effective from midnight December 9, 2001, the day preceding the budget presentation. This is the usual practice, and it ensures uniform application of budget measures to transactions entered into on budget day across Canada. Today’s announcement will allow interested parties to take this practice into account in planning their financial affairs. All Department of Finance publications are available free of charge on the Department’s Web site at the address shown below. These include the 2001 budget documents, which will be made available shortly after the budget is tabled on December 10, 2001. Printed copies of The Budget Plan 2001 will cost $26.75, including GST. The order form may be downloaded from the Department of Finance Web site at the address shown below, or may be obtained by contacting the Department’s Distribution Centre by e-mail at budget2001@fin.gc.ca or by telephone at (613) 943-8665.
