Budget Documents

The Budget Speech and The Budget in Brief provide highlights of measures in the budget.

The Economic and Fiscal Update

Serves as the base document leading into the budget-planning process; updates the national economic and federal fiscal situation; and sets the stage for the upcoming budget by outlining the fiscal challenges facing the country and providing an overview of government spending and revenues.

The Fiscal Monitor

Provides monthly highlights of the Government's fiscal performance.

The Economy in Brief

Describes Canada's quarterly economic performance.

Government of Canada Securities

Quarterly update, with graphs, describing the Government's debt program and developments in fixed-income markets and the economy.

Budget Technical Document

Consists of detailed fiscal, economic and technical information on federal budget policies. It also provides economic assumptions underlying budget planning, describes the outlook for the economy and the federal fiscal situation, and supplies detailed information on budget measures as well as Notices of Ways and Means Motions. Complimentary copies of The Budget Speech and The Budget in Brief are included with the technical document.

Debt Management Report

Outlines key elements of the current federal debt management strategy, and describes various strategic and operational aspects of the Government's debt program and cash management activities over the past year.

Tax Expenditures and Evaluations

Used as a source of information to analyze the Canadian tax system, it provides information on the federal income tax system (corporate and personal) as well as the goods and services tax.

Annual Financial Report of the Government of Canada and Fiscal Reference Tables

The Annual Financial Report of the Government of Canada reviews the Government's spending and revenue performance and discusses the factors affecting the results of the past fiscal year. The Fiscal Reference Tables provide historical information on federal public finances and broad fiscal indicators at the provincial level. International fiscal comparisons are also outlined.

Ways and Means Motions, Draft Legislation, Legislative Proposals and Explanatory Notes

Provide legal wording for amendments to various acts (relating mainly to tax issues), describe the amendments and include practical examples demonstrating the effects of changes.
