Notice of Ways and Means Motion to Amend the Excise Tax Act and the Excise Act tabled in the House of Commons

Secretary of State for Finance Doug Peters today tabled in the House of Commons a Notice of Ways and Means Motion to amend the Excise Tax Act and the Excise Act. The motion consolidates excise tax changes announced by the government in the last three months.

Most of the amendments in this motion were announced in the budget of February 27, 1995. They include changes to the air transportation tax, excise tax rates for gasoline, seizure and notification provisions, and marking requirements for tobacco products for sale in Prince Edward Island. The motion also contains changes to the excise tax rates for tobacco products for sale in Quebec, Ontario and Prince Edward Island announced on February 17, 1995, (Quebec and Ontario) and March 31, 1995 (Prince Edward Island).
