Government Selects Global Coordinators for Petro-Canada Sale

Natural Resources Minister Anne McLellan, Finance Minister Paul Martin and Secretary of State (International Financial Institutions) Doug Peters today announced the selection of Gordon Capital, ScotiaMcLeod and Merrill Lynch as global coordinators for the sale of the government's Petro-Canada shareholding.

These firms will be responsible for advising the government on such matters as the timing, size, pricing and structure of the share sale.

The government's intention to sell its Petro-Canada shares was announced in the 1995 federal budget by Finance Minister Martin. The government owns 173.3 million common shares of Petro-Canada, representing a 70 per cent interest in the company.
