Ottawa, August 16, 2002 Change in Department of Finance Tax Treaty AnnouncementsThe Department of Finance announced today that it has implemented a new electronic service to provide notification of tax treaty developments. The Department will therefore no longer issue news releases to announce events such as the commencement of tax treaty negotiations or the signing or coming into force of Canada’s tax treaties with other countries. Instead, effective immediately, persons interested in notification of tax treaty developments may subscribe to the automatic e-mail notification system at the registry page on the Department’s Web site at http://www.fin.gc.ca/scripts/register_e.asp. The Web site will contain an up-to-date summary of all Canadian tax treaty developments. Those who currently subscribe to receive automatic e-mail notification of all Department of Finance news releases must re-register to receive automatic e-mail notification of tax treaty developments. Tax treaties are bilateral agreements between countries for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion. The treaty framework makes the tax system fairer and more predictable for taxpayers in their international activities. ___________________ Jean-Michel Catta If you would like to receive automatic e-mail notification of all news releases, please visit the Department of Finance Canada Web site at http://www.fin.gc.ca/scripts/register_e.asp. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
