Ottawa, September 13, 2002 Canada’s World Bank Executive Director NominatedJohn Manley, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, announced the nomination of Marcel Massé as Canada’s Executive Director at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. Mr. Massé’s record of public service extends over more than thirty years, beginning in 1967 when he worked in the Administration and Economics Division of the World Bank in Washington. This was followed by several years of service in the Government of New Brunswick and the federal government. As a federal public servant, Mr. Massé held a number of positions in the Privy Council Office and was twice named president of the Canadian International Development Agency. From 1993 to 1999 Mr. Massé served as Member of Parliament for the constituency of Hull-Aylmer. During that time he served as Minister Responsible for Public Service Renewal, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Treasury Board of Canada. He currently serves as Executive Director for Canada at the Inter-American Development Bank. Mr. Massé will replace Terrie O’Leary, who has served two terms in the post since her nomination in 1998. He will assume the position effective November 1, 2002. The term of Executive Director lasts two years. ___________________ For further information:
