Related document:

Finance Minister Paul Martin today announced that on December 31, 1998, the Government of Canada and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia exchanged the instruments of ratification of the Protocol amending the 1979 Convention between Canada and the Republic of Indonesia for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital signed at Jakarta on April 1, 1998.

Article XVIII of the Protocol provides that it will enter into force upon the exchange of instruments of ratification. The Protocol therefore entered into force on December 31, 1998, and its provisions have effect for taxable periods beginning on or after January 1, 1999.
