Minister of Finance Announces Appointment to Canadian International Trade Tribunal

Finance Minister Paul Martin today announced the appointment of Mr. Pierre Gosselin to the position of Chair of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT).

Mr. Gosselin is currently Director General, Human Resources Development Bureau, at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. He received a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Economics from the University of Ottawa. He has occupied various senior positions with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and Industry, Trade and Commerce Canada.

"Mr. Gosselin has acquired extensive expertise in the area of international trade during the past 20 years in the public service, which will serve him and the Tribunal very well," noted Mr. Martin.

The CITT is an administrative tribunal operating within Canada's trade remedies system. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal Act provides for the appointment by Governor in Council of up to nine members comprising a Chair, two Vice-Chairs and six members.

The appointment will take effect December 15th, 1997.

Biographical Notes

PIERRE GOSSELIN

Mr. Pierre Gosselin holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Economics from the University of Ottawa. Since 1967, Mr. Gosselin has occupied various positions involving increased managerial responsibilities with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and Industry, Trade and Commerce Canada. Among his assignments, Mr. Gosselin was the Minister and Permanent Representative to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, Italy; Minister-counsellor (commercial) at the Canadian embassy inWashington, D.C.; Director General, Special Trade Relations, at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada; and Minister and Alternate Permanent Representative to the GATT Permanent Mission of Canada to the UN and to the GATT in Geneva, Switzerland. Prior to his appointment to the Canadian International Tribunal, Mr. Gosselin was Director General, Human Resources Development Bureau, at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.
